Seeing spots and stains on office carpet is much like the elephant in the room.
Obvious to everyone entering and no one wants to talk about it.
Check out these three ways that can be easily introduced to eliminate or reduce this recurring and unsightly problem.
- walk off mats
- immediate damp towel blotting
- routine cleaning program
Let’s begin with walk off mats. The mats must be placed at the inside of all entry doors and regularly serviced. These mats should have a dirt-grabbing pile to attract the sand and dirt when walked on. Daily vacuuming is necessary and frequent laundering is recommended.
White microfiber cloth damp towel blotting. As soon as a spill happens, the action to take is immediate towel blotting. No rubbing, scrubbing or scratching the carpet surface. A good way is to place the towel on spill, then step on the towel, allowing the spill to be absorbed into the towel from the foot pressure. Remove towel, grab another towel dampened with plain water, repeat blotting technique. Why white? I don’t know, personal preference I guess. Yellow or blue works too.
Routine cleaning works well to keep spots at bay. With regular cleaning, the carpet is fresh so soil will not attract as readily to the fiber. Many times when commercial carpet is on a maintenance cleaning schedule, the soil is vacuumed away during the regular daily cleaning and does not leave spots and stains.
- The goal is to diffuse the spot before it happens, walk-off mats work well.
- Should a spill occur, towel blot as soon as possible, while the spill is still wet.
- Routine carpet maintenance works at keeping the carpet as clean as possible, giving carpet fiber the best defense at repelling spills, spots and stains.
